I think bot witchhunts (as in players screaming 'BOT!!' at just about anything) are a terrible thing to happen to a game. People want to play a game with peace of mind, and not suffer from the anxiety that if they don't do something unexpected or irregular every 10 seconds, someone might just think they're a bot. I personally don't want to be forced to /dance every so often when playing with strangers just because one of them might report me as a bot, I just want to play the game.
I've seen this in other online games as well: people who think they're doing good by hunting down and reporting bots, but without very much clue on how to go about it. They'll taunt a player and push him to respond, and if he doesn't respond within 10 seconds, bam, report. Same sort of attitude that you can see in PvP: you use a clever build to kill someone, and suddenly you're branded a hacker. Here you don't talk much or keep a steady pace in your killing, and suddenly you're branded a bot. It's sad, and causes ArenaNet a lot of extra work which actually detracts from their capabilities to track down the real bots/hacks. Ofcourse there shouldn't be any reason for such paranoia: I hope ArenaNet investigates each bot report themselves, and never draws conclusions from what one or a couple of people claim about what they thought somebody was doing. That will give the honest players peace of mind and allow them to fully enjoy the game. |

On the flipside, I have had the very unfortunate experience of playing with a bot, TWICE. And beleive me, you know when you are playing with a bot. For one, they never, ever respond. For two, they will *always* just keep running into monsters. When I was doing Hell's Precipice our party only realized it was a bot halfway through when they wouldn't stop rushing. I will only make the assumption that it is a bot when they don't repond, ever throughout the whole mission, keep rushing, and then later in town they will let you add and kick them several hundred times. But yeah, it sucks. At least there are probably some people reporting true bots.
In other news, playing with people that can't speak english, never know when you are adressing them, and don't respond ever even to their own english name are NOT fun to play with. |

i've been stuck with bots a couple of occassions.. as soon as i realized what was going on, i left. worst was the gates of kryta mission. jesus seems like half the attempts i made were plagued with bots. they'd just make a beeline by themselves for every monster in sight, and end up aggrovating monsters in the multiple dozens to fend off.
next time if i figure out whose bot it is, i will personally wring their neck. |

Yeah, i could see why they'd be around Kryta, before they nerfed the drops. Frustrating, huh?
